Las Vegas is buzzing with possibilities. Imagine lounging by the pool with a Mojito in hand one moment, and soaring over the Grand Canyon the next. Yes, you read that right. Las Vegas offers a unique blend of natural wonder and modern luxury, and this summer, why not experience the best of both worlds?
Where Nature Meets Culture: The West Rim
Operated by the Hualapai Nation, the West Rim of the Grand Canyon offers a unique blend of natural beauty and cultural richness. Unlike the South Rim, the West Rim allows you to walk right up to the edge and peer down 4,000 feet to the Colorado River below. The sheer vertical drop is awe-inspiring, to say the least.
Getting There: Your Options
If you’re considering a road trip, be prepared for a three-hour drive from Las Vegas, with the final stretch being a slow drive on a dirt road. However, if you’re looking to elevate your experience, our helicopter and airplane tours can get you there in just 35 minutes, offering breathtaking aerial views along the way.
The Highlights: Eagle Point and Guano Point
Eagle Point is renowned for its eagle-shaped rock formation and the world-famous Skywalk—a glass bridge suspended 4,000 feet above the canyon floor. Walking on the Skywalk feels like floating in mid-air, and it’s an adrenaline-pumping experience, especially for those with a fear of heights. Just a heads-up: personal belongings, including cameras, are not allowed on the Skywalk, but professional photos are available for purchase.
At Eagle Point, you’ll also find performances by native Hualapai dancers and musicians, as well as a historical trail featuring artifacts from Southwest Native American tribes.
Guano Point offers a different kind of thrill. Named after an old bat guano mine discovered in the late 1950s, this viewpoint offers a panoramic view of the West Rim. For the adventurous, a climb to the top of a circular rock formation provides an unparalleled 360-degree view. And don’t worry, despite the name, you won’t find any bat droppings!
Tour Options: From Sky to River
There are companies that offer different type of tours at the West Rim. For example, the “Over the Edge Helicopter & Boat Tour” takes you from the rim to the canyon floor, where you’ll board a pontoon boat for a gentle drift along the Colorado River. The experience of seeing the canyon from both top and bottom is truly unique.
A second example is the “Helicopter Up & Down Flight Only with Legacy Entrance”. It allows you to explore the canyon base on foot before flying back to the rim. Both tours include West Rim entrance fees and bus transportation to Eagle Point and Guano Point.
How to Get to the West Rim
You have several options for reaching the West Rim. For those who prefer to drive, it’s a straightforward three-hour journey from Las Vegas. Alternatively, motor coach bus tours offer a full-day round trip experience. And for the ultimate convenience, our airplane and helicopter tours get you there in just about 35 minutes.
